Crossroads in Translation and Interpreting: from Crisis Translation to AVT and accessibility - May 31st -
Dear all,
You are invited to an open seminar on Translation and Interpreting in Crisis organised as part of a short series of seminars entitled "Crossroads in Translation and Interpreting: from Crisis Translation to AVT and accessibility".
The Online Seminars "Crossroads in Translation and Interpreting: from Crisis Translation to AVT and accessibility" have been organized for the META-FRASEIS Laboratory of the Faculty of English Studies of the Kapodistrian University of Athens, with the aim to introduce our students to prominent academics from abroad and inform them on important areas of Translation that we hope will inspire new professionals and researchers. It is also an attempt to bring the interested student, research and teaching community of Greece together. We are thus inviting you all to participate and be informed about these areas and we urge you to forward this invitation to those you feel would be interested in this topic.

Soledad Zarate is a lecturer at UCL, where she convenes and teaches the module Subtitling and Captioning for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing People at post-graduate level. She completed a PhD in Translation at University College London with a focus on subtitling for deaf children. She launched a captioning service at the Puppet Theatre Barge (London) in 2016 and is currently in charge of providing captions for their productions throughout the year. Soledad is the author of the recently published “Captioning and Subtitling for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing Audiences”.
Emmanouela Patiniotaki is a graduate of the English Department of the Kapodistrian University of Athens. She holds a MSc in Scientific, Medical and Technical Translation with Translation Technology and a PhD in Accessibility from Imperial College London. She has been working as a professional in Translation and Localisation since 2006, in Audiovisual Access Services since 2011 and is a member of the Movement of Disabled Artists, an activist group the initiated accessible cinema and theatre in Greece and have contributed vastly in the development of accessible performances. She teaches Translation Technology, Language Automation, Access Services and Audiovisual Translation at University College London and delivers guest lectures in other institutions. As a researcher, she works on the aforementioned fields, focusing on the design of New Means of Access and Universally Accessible Environments, as well as Crisis Translation, and is a member of the INTERACT Crisis Translation Network.
