Η Βασιλική (Κική) Νικηφορίδου αποφοίτησε από το Τμήμα Φιλολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και έκανε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στο Πανεπιστήμιο Berkeley (M.A., Ph.D.). Οι τομείς εξειδίκευσής της είναι η γνωσιακή γλωσσολογία, η ιστορική σημασιολογία-σύνταξη και η γραμματικοποίηση, η θεωρία των γραμματικών δομών και η λεξικογραφία. Τα πρόσφατα ερευνητικά της ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζουν στη σχέση γραμματικής και discourse (genre).

Έχει συν-επιμεληθεί τους τόμους Γλώσσα και Νόηση (Αλεξάνδρεια 1999), Reviewing Linguistic Thought: Converging Trends for the 21st Century (Mouton de Gruyter 2005), Advances in Frame Semantics (Benjamins 2013), Linguistic theory and language change in the 21st century (Brill 2021), και έχει συγγράψει τις μονογραφίες Grammatical Meaning and Construal: A Cognitive Linguistic Approach (Parousia monographs 61, 2004) and Grammar and Discourse: A Constructional Approach to Discourse-Βased Conventionality (Parousia monographs 81, 2011). Από το 2009 έως το 2020 ήταν συνεκδότρια του διεθνούς περιοδικού ‘Constructions and Frames’ (John Benjamins) και από το 2020 έως σήμερα μέλος της επιστημονικής του επιτροπής. Από το 2021 (με την Mirjam Fried) έχει την συντακτική κι εκδοτική επιμέλεια του The Cambridge Handbook of Construction Grammar (to appear in 2024).
